I have Shade V 14.1.1 in my shopping cart, all I need to do is click "Checkout" and I will buy the programme but I do have a question, before I click that button.

Can you apply bump maps to the models?
What I mean is I watched a video by Andrew Price on texturing a cobble stone road in Blender and the end result was a photo realistic render.
He used a programme called "CrazyBump" in which it creates a Bump map. a normal Map, a Displacement map and a Specularity map, and he brought them all in the Blender on to the mesh and with some manipulation in the programme it looked so real.
I found a cheaper programme (Shadermap) which does the same thing, creating the same maps, so the question is can they all be brought into Shade the create a realistic render?

Thanks in advance

Yes, Shade supports ( parallax ) bump mapping. Go here and scroll down to the Materials section to see what's supported in each version:

Hi Philip,

Shade supports all kind of Maps. So, yes you can do this. However, if i remember correctly only Shade Professional supports Normal Maps. I would suggest, prior purchasing, that you download a Trial version of Shade first to see it by yourself.

Best regards
Stefan

As an alternative to bump maps, Shade added displacement maps in version 12. They can produce some dramatic results and can be baked into mesh. Levels of fineness can be specified—the more coarse, the faster the render. Of course they can be combined with any other map, diffuse map for colouring, reflection map to restrict what parts reflect and so on.

Here are a bunch of examples:

Displacement Maps

Included are 1024Ă—1024 maps to download and try. Of course, they can also be used as bump maps as well for comparison. Renders are also shown at various levels of coarseness. Layered maps are also shown, with downloadable maps to try.

Hi Larry,

Thank you for the reply,
I have downloaded some of your other tutorials

Is there a tutorial on how to use these maps? I am still new with Shade so am stumbling around in the dark.

Using image maps in Shade

I just knocked this out, and have not had time to refine or revise. It should be OK. Any questions, please post here, and I will make changes to illustrate them.
