Is there way to select every other Vertex, Edge or Face.

I have just watched a Modo video on modelling a microphone but focusing on the wire mesh dome on the top of microphones, in the video the instructor had a line with a lot of Vertices on it, he then did something and every other Vertex was selected, in Blender he selected all of the vertices the chose the "checker deselect" in the select menu and again every other Vertex was selected, in Hexagon if I remember correctly its called "One over N" you make a ring or loop selection, then choose the One over N command and it lets you choose how many Vertices, Edges or Faces you want the selection to miss.

Hope this made sense.
If it can't be done can it be added to the future request list?

Hi,

with the meshtoolsplus plug-in you can do that with faces, and many other useful things.

Thanks for the reply, and again sorry for the inevitable dumb question, I have been though all the menus in Shade and cannot find the meshtoolsplus plug-in.

Where would I find it please?

Thanks in advance

Well, i thought i have mentioned the plug-in before here on the forum...if not sorry. It's a third party plug-in from the "Strange Days" site, if i remember correctly. Don`t have a URL any longer, sorry.

I found it

http://strangedays2008.seesaa.net/article/136222561.html

Its a zip file,
in the zip file there is a folder called meshtoolsplus
in that folder there are 5 files

1/ A folder called "images"
2/ A Folder called "pyc"
3/ index.html
4/ shade widget.css
5/ shade widget.js

I assume that the images in the images folder are the icons that go with the py files in the pyc folder.

I unzipped the meshtoolsplus folder and put it in the Shade 3d plugins folder,
I then restarted Shade
went to the scripts folder and the meshtoolsplus folder was there, in that folder was the pyc folder, but when I clicked on that folder all I see is the list of *.py files (which are numbered), so again I assume that the css file and the js file have to go somewhere in shade so the icons go with the py files.
But I have no idea how or where.
Can someone help please?

Hi Philip,

It's a widget. You have to put all the files it in your widget folder and not in the scripts folder. Note also, since you mentioned pyc, those files are compiled Python files and are normally not bytecode compatible with other versions of Python/Shade, i.e.when it mentions Shade 13 it may not run under 14, in case there's a differnt Python version used.

Stefan

Unfortunately, it appears that this doesn't work in shade 14. Should work in 13 if you have it (I don't).

If I put it in the right place I agree, that it doesn't work in Shade 14, I am going to put it in as a feature request.
From what I can see with the icons it looks like a series of tools that should be integrated into Shade.

:: update,
It looks like some of the python files work even though I don't know which one does what, I may go through them one by one and try a associated an action with them..

I bought in a cube - selected a face - went to the scripts menu - selected run - drilled down to the meshtoolsplus folder - drilled to the pyc folder and radommly chose a py file from there - after a couple of tries something did happen to the model but I forgot what file I chose lol..

If the py files work, it may just be a case of reconstructing the widget in xml. I've looked at the scripting manual and it looks doable - although I say this as an xml/ js novice...;)

reconstructing the widget in xml That is way over my head as well (hopefully someone who knows this stuff will take up the challenge) because this plugin looks really useful with all of the tools and it should be standard fair in Shade 3D

I have started going through them one by one, and then renaming them.

One of the hiccups is that when you use the py file you sometimes get a dialogue box pop up but it is in Japanese :(

I've had a look at meshtools, but I think getting it to work in 14 is beyond me, unfortunately. I can get simple things to work, but not those scripts. Hopefully, somebody else will have a go.
