- 3D Sound can be rendered alone or as part of an animation. Supported formats are .wav, .aif, .aiff, .au.

- QuickTime VR Panorama, Cubic, and Object movies can now be rendered.

- PathConstraints provides advanced control over animating objects along a path.

- PoserFusion now supports Display Bounding Box.

- Camera Mapping has been added to the UV Mapping Editor.

- Sound and Background tabs have been added to ShadeExplorer.

For more information on the new features in Shade 8.5, please see the Supplemental Manual.

What's New in 8

PoserFusion 2
- Support for Poser 6's dynamic hair and reading external morph target file format. See below for more notes on Poser integration.

Mesh Editing
- Brand new polygon mesh editing tools provide an easy way to modify your polygon mesh data, all accessible from the new Mesh toolbox.

- By running a ShadeGrid rendering server on any system on a local network, you can utilize that system's processing power during rendering to reduce rendering time. Shade automatically searches the local area network for all available systems running the ShadeGrid server and displays the IP addresses in the preferences dialog.

- Objects can be set to "toon" in the ToonRenderer window, which will render them in a cartoon style.

OpenEXR Import/Export
- Import/export support for the movie industry standard image file format developed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). OpenEXR supports high dynamic-range (HDR) images which offer extra detail in bright or dark areas of an image.

Adobe Illustrator
- Can export wireframes in the Figure window as Illustrator Bezier curves. Shade's hierarchy structure is exported to Illustrator as separate layers, making modifications easy.

Callisto 2 (professional only)
- Support for aberration and a new translucent and metallic shader have been added in Callisto 2.

Radiosity 3 (professional only)
- Radiosity Pro's engine is now even better than before, and radiosity calculations are up to 1.5 times faster.

New Animation plugins
- Constant movement in path joint animation
- SmartKinematics IK animation
- AimConstraints animation controls

Important Information

Please note:

- Please keep your product serial number in a safe place. It is needed in order to launch and register your software.

- The Demo version of Shade 8 has a trial period of 30 days. After 30 days you will need to visit our website at http://www.miryestore.com to purchase a new serial number (for either standard or professional) to continue using your copy of Shade 8.

- If you purchase an upgrade to Shade 8, such as an upgrade from the Shade 8 Demo version or Shade 8 standard to Shade 8 professional, you can input your new serial number by choosing "Enter Serial Number..." from the Help menu.

- The following features are not available in the 64 bit Windows version of Shade:
 - Shockwave 3D Exporter
 - ViewPoint Exporter
 - QuickTime VR Exporter

- The following features are not available in the Mac OS X version of Shade:
 - Shockwave 3D Exporter
 - ViewPoint Exporter

- Shade runs best with 32 bit true color graphics driver settings. If your driver doesn't support 32 bit, please use 24 bit true color instead.

- Shade's hardware accelerated preview runs best on recent NVIDIA and ATI graphics boards. In case you encounter any problems with the hardware acceleration, please switch off the acceleration component.
  * Go to Edit menu > Preferences...
  * On the Preferences dialog, select the OpenGL tab.
  * Uncheck the Accelerator check box.

If upgrading to the newest driver version offered by the original manufacturer still does not solve the problem, set the hardware accelerator to [none] under graphics accelerator trouble shooting.

  * Close Shade if it is running.
  * Right-click on an empty area of the desktop, and select [Properties].
  * Select the [Settings] tab from the display properties, and click on [Setting Details] (Windows XP) / [Details] (Windows 2000) in the bottom right corner.
  * Select the [Trouble Shooting] tab from the window.
  * Set the [Hardware accelerator] slider to [none].
  * Click the Ok button to apply the settings.

Poser Integration with PoserFusion

Please take the following notes into account when working with the PoserFusion feature in Shade:

1. PoserFusion is now compatible with Poser 6. Poser 4/5/6 pz3/pzz files can be imported. Before importing Poser 6 files, please make sure to change the Poser location and point to the Poser 6 installation directory.

2. An improved bending algorithm was used on some of Jessi's joints. Visual quality of bending might be affected since PoserFusion will fall back to an older algorithm.

3. Dynamic hair in PoserFusion is limited, depending on your available memory.

4. If you use motion blur, for best results, check "Use Integer Frame Numbers". If you use BlurEffector, uncheck "Use Integer Frame Numbers".
  * Go to Rendering menu > Render...
  * On the Image window click on the Effects tab. From the Effector pulldown menu select BlurEffector.
  * Go to View menu > Motion. Click on the Setting button and change the Steps to 0.2 in the Animation Settings palette.

5. Hosting a Poser 5 scene with bump maps in Shade:
In Poser 5, if the bump image map is connected to the Gradient_Bump channel, the Bump map will not render correctly in Shade. To correct this, disconnect the Gradient_Bump and connect the image map to the Bump channel.

Known Issues

- Rendering animations in a network of rendering servers might fail if your Shade scene relies on plugins or the PoserFusion feature. In case you encounter this problem, please render the animation on your main computer.

Copyrighted files

The copyrights for the sample files included on the Shade 9 CD-ROM belong to the original authors of those files. They are included for personal use. Commercial use of the original or modified files, or using them in any media, is prohibited.

- Wavefront OBJ Export
When importing Wavefront OBJ files from Shade 8 into other 3D applications, e.g. Poser, you might notice that mirrored geometry gets reversed. There is a simple procedure in Shade to correct this issue:
  * Open the .shd model in Shade 8
  * Go to Rendering menu> Display Mode> Shading.
  * Go to Rendering menu> Single-sided.
  * Go to the Modify menu> Show Normals.
  * Adjust the direction of the reversed faces of all objects by using the Flip Face checkbox in the Browser window.

- Web 3D: Viewpoint & Shockwave 3D
Shade 8 can create 3D interactive scenes that can be seamlessly integrated with web pages and viewed over the Internet using the Viewpoint Media Player plug-in for Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL and CompuServe. You will need to obtain a broadcast key from Viewpoint in order to have your content viewable over the Internet without Viewpoint's "water mark" placed over your image. Broadcast keys are made freely available by Viewpoint for non-commercial uses and for many smaller scaled commercial uses as well. All use is subject to Viewpoint's license agreement. To acquire a valid broadcast key, visit the Viewpoint web site at http://www.viewpoint.com.
Viewpoint and Shockwave 3D export is supported by the Windows versions of Shade only.
