Using HDR Spherical Images as Light Sources in Poser 7

This article follows steps using Smith Micro Poser 7. Several of these steps become easier in newer versions of Poser.

Using HDR Spherical Images as Light Sources in Poser

  1. Choose menu Window > Python Scripts and then select Utility Func > Delete All Lights to set up an unlighted scene.
  2. Use the Create a New Light icon to create a single spotlight. Change the color of the light to white.
  3. Select the Material Tab, click the IBL (Image Based Lighting) button.
  4. From the Texture Manager dialog, browse to the file.
  5. Poser will prompt you, asking you if you want to activate Ambient Occlusion. Choose Yes.

You will want to align your light so that it matches the light source apparent in your background.

A single light source will not produce a completely realistic scene. Experiment with adding additional lights.
